Hello everyone! Today I’ll be talking about the 5K for 5K’s at Khalsa Gurmat Center!

Do you know what a 5K is? A 5K is a popular and approachable road race that covers a distance of 5 kilometers, equivalent to approximately 3.1 miles. It has become one of the most widely participated events in the running community due to its manageable distance and accessibility to runners of all skill levels.

We typically organize after the school year ends. As a fun and engaging community event, the 5K race provides an opportunity for individuals to challenge themselves, set personal fitness goals, or simply enjoy the peace and serenity of their friends and the outdoors. Whether you’re a seasoned athlete striving for a personal best or a person looking to embrace a healthier lifestyle, the 5K offers an inclusive and supportive atmosphere that fosters motivation and accomplishment.

Participants can expect an exhilarating experience filled with cheers from spectators, a sense of achievement as they cross the finish line, and the satisfaction of knowing they’ve completed a memorable journey towards fitness and well-being!

Each year we host an annual 5K for 5K’s (The Panj Kakar’s — Kanga, Kashera, Kirpan, Karra, and Kesh) for the well being, good health and Chardi-Kala of the sangat. The event started around 7:30 in the morning where everybody got there and was enjoying hot and fresh tea and protein snacks. Families were checking in to get their numbers and their free T-shirts. Then we stretched and got ready for the run. As everyone was at the start line, we counted down from three and heard the siren go off.

Everybody ran forward and we started the 5K. We went through a very scenic route seeing the botanical garden, a lake, and even being on the side of the highway! The run was around 1.6 miles, and everybody got done in around 30 to 60 minutes. Even though we call it the 5K, the actual run was a little shorter to accommodate the seniors.

After everyone was done, we enjoyed hot French fries and Pakora’s. We announced the results and socialized for another 30 to 45 minutes with all of our community! All in all, we had a very fun and happy Sunday Morning 5K with our Khalsa School Sangat!
