Dear diary — on August 11, 2023, we started our journey to Cancun, Mexico for our annual summer trip. At around 10 PM we completed our packing and said good night to each other.

The next morning, we woke up early at around 3:30 AM and got ready to head out of the house. Once we got to the airport, we completed all the needed formalities. We grabbed a bite to eat before the plane ride, so we don’t get hungry on the flight. We then boarded our plane and waited to takeoff. The flight there went smoothly and just like that we had landed. The moment we stepped foot outside of the airport, the heat hit me. Two minutes had gone by, and my family and I were already sweating. We grabbed some water bottles and headed to our resort. It was about a one-hour van ride to get there.

Once we reached, we checked in and got our wristbands. We were staying at the Grand Palladium and due to my experience, I highly recommend it! As soon as we got to our room, my family and I changed into proper clothing for the weather and headed down to the lobby to meet up with my cousins and their family. After they all got checked in, we headed to dinner where we ate the buffet that they had. They had many options for food including Thai, Japanese, Mexican, Italian, a Steakhouse and even a buffet. For all the restaurants, you had to make a reservation, as for the buffet you could just walk in, get a plate and eat your food. Then we all headed to our rooms and had a good night’s sleep.

The next morning, we woke up, got ready, and headed to the tennis courts to go play there. Then we all went to the pool to cool off and have some fun. We went on slides and the obstacle courses. We all got super hungry and decided to go eat at the buffet and get some dinner reservations at the nice restaurants. We headed to our rooms to get a power nap in and then headed to dinner. This was routine for the first three days where we were on repeat doing everything how we did the day before.

Finally, on the fourth day we decided to take a break from roaming around in the resort and instead explore the city of Playa de Carmen. We booked a taxi and headed there all together. When we got there, we entered the shopping center and started walking on a big avenue. We shopped there for a couple of hours and got some Mexican goodies. We then got a taxi back to our resort, and as soon as we got back, we freshened up and headed to a nice sit-down restaurant for dinner and we ended the night off with some popcorn and played bluff together.

The next morning, we got ready and headed over to our taxi to make our way to Tulum, the place where the Mayans lived. We explored all the buildings as we were dying of heat. Then we made our way back and saw a lot of Iguanas and Cenotes. When we got back, we all cooled off in the pool and spent a good 3–4 hours in it. We had so much fun as it was our last full day there. We got ready again for dinner and since it was my uncle’s birthday we cut a cake, celebrated Raakhi, and took some cute photos. We ended our night off with a mesmerizing fire show and a white party!

Early next morning, we headed over to the buffet for breakfast and had yummy food to fill us up for the plane ride. We headed out of the resort for the last time and it felt like such a quick week. Once we landed in Seattle, we got home, did our laundry, and went to bed.

In essence, we had a really fun and awesome trip where we got to spend time with cousins. We had lots of fun and got really tan. If you were to ever make a trip there, Grand Palladium is a great place to go and have fun with family!
