Week 18 – Staying Motivated with Dentistry
This week made me think a lot about why I became interested in dentistry in the first place. Sometimes it’s easy to get caught up in school, homework, extracurriculars, and stress, but I’ve been trying to remind myself of my long-term goals and what I want my future to look like.
One thing I’ve realized is that dentistry is more than just teeth. Dentists help people feel confident, healthy, and comfortable. A smile can affect someone’s self-esteem, and being able to help patients improve their oral health is something I think would be really rewarding. I also like that dentistry combines science, problem-solving, creativity, and communication all together.
This week I spent some time researching different dental specialties and learning more about what dental students actually study in school. I found it interesting how many paths there are within dentistry, like orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, oral surgery, and cosmetic dentistry. Right now, I’m still open to exploring all of them because each specialty has something unique about it.
I’ve also been thinking about how important consistency is. Even small steps, like studying biology, improving time management, volunteering, or learning more about healthcare, can help me move closer to my goals. It can feel overwhelming sometimes thinking about how long the journey is, but I’m learning that progress happens little by little.
Overall, Week 18 reminded me that success doesn’t happen overnight. Staying motivated, working hard, and continuing to learn are all part of the process. I’m excited to keep exploring the dental field and growing both academically and personally along the way.
