Week 33 – Summer Shadowing at Ballard Modern Dentistry

Catch-up entry for 2026-09-02; written in October 2026. Reflections may refer to earlier experiences.

Along with my time at The EyeSite, I shadowed at Ballard Modern Dentistry this summer. Looking back as the school year begins, I am grateful that my interest in dentistry has given me opportunities to explore a real healthcare workplace.

Making a Career Interest More Concrete

Writing about dentistry and exploring a dental office are different ways of learning. The journal gives me space to investigate a topic carefully. Shadowing gives that interest a setting beyond a textbook or a screen.

I am still early in this process. I do not want to turn one summer into a claim that I understand the profession completely. Instead, I want to use the experience as a starting point for more thoughtful learning.

Questions for the Future

What makes an explanation reassuring? How do dental professionals keep developing their skills? How can a treatment plan make sense scientifically and also feel understandable to the person receiving it?

These are questions I want to carry into future shadowing opportunities and into this blog.

Ballard Modern Dentistry is now part of the story of how I am exploring my goal. I am excited to keep building that story through study, observation, and conversations, one experience at a time.
