Shiloh

Hello everyone! Today I will be telling you about the book Shiloh. This book is about a dog who was mistreated by his owner and how when an 11 year old boy fell in love with the dog the moment he saw him.

The book all starts out on how an 11 year old boy, Marty is exploring the woods near his family’s home when he falls upon a small, skittish and thin beagle, white with brown and black spots. He continues exploring the woods but notices that the dog is following him. When Marty stops, the dog stops. It’s like the dog and him are coordinated with each other. The dog follows Marty home and his mom asks whose dog it is. Marty says that he does not know but his dad says that Judd Travers (Judd is a mean person and has a like for hunting) has newly gotten a new hunting dog, a beagle so it must be his. So the family decides that they would give the dog back the next morning.

The next morning comes very quickly and Marty and his dad are off to return the dog. While they are on their way to Judd’s house Marty tells his dad that he does not want to give the dog back because he thinks that Judd mistreats his dogs. But the next day the dog is at it again waiting to be let in at the front door. So Marty decided to build a secret pen in which Shiloh (the dog) can stay.

Marty’s mom was astonished that the dog was there and promised him that she would not tell Marty’s dad about the dog. Soon, Ray Preston (Marty’s dad) finds out about the dog. Some days later their neighbor’s dog jumped over the fence to Shiloh’s pen and attacked him. They quickly took Shiloh to the Doctor. After Shiloh comes back, Marty asks his dad if he can keep the dog until he gets better.

A few days pass but then one day Judd Travers shows up to their house. Marty explains to him and pleads if he can keep Shiloh until he gets better. Judd says yes but he has to give the dog back on Sunday. That Sunday early in the morning he goes to Judd’s house to make an agreement. Judd said yes after lots of pleasing but only on one circumstance — that Marty has to give him forty dollars and that he could work for him.

Marty finally earned the forty dollars and the dog was his! I hoped you enjoyed reading this summary and look for my new topic next time.
